IN THE MEDIA: Latitude Features In New Jersey Today

Thank you to the team at New Jersey Today for featuring Latitude in a recent article titled ‘For New Jersey’s Ultra-Wealthy, a Golden Visa Is the Ultimate Hedge Fund’.

Here’s an excerpt:

For New Jersey’s Ultra-Wealthy, a Golden Visa Is the Ultimate Hedge Fund

If all goes to plan, a Ridgewood family of four will soon be trading their suburban New Jersey life for the sun-drenched coasts of Portugal. By then, they will have had their birth certificates notarized, submitted to fingerprinting by European officials and wired €500,000 into an international investment fund.

They are among a growing number of wealthy New Jersey residents using their capital to secure residency — and eventually citizenship — outside the United States.

Known as citizenship by investment, or a “golden visa,” the process allows individuals who make a substantial financial commitment — whether through property, business investment or government funds — to obtain permanent residency or citizenship in a foreign country.

While no agency tracks these cases at the state level, three firms that facilitate such residences report that interest in golden visas has exploded over the past five years. Firms say Americans now make up as many as three-fourths of their clients — a dramatic leap from fewer than 5% in 2019. And the tri-state area, with its dense concentration of wealth, is a major driver of that demand.

“I have just as many disgruntled Republicans who are worried about another Biden, left-leaning, Sanders,” said Eric Major, head of Latitude, a citizenship-by-investment firm with U.S. offices in Denver, Miami and New York. “It’s just as much this guy as the other guy.”
