Investment migration is our industry. We understand, however, that there might be certain shorthand industry terms that those who aren’t in the know might be unfamiliar with. This includes the likes of MPRP which we’ll clear up below.
MPRP stands for the Malta Permanent Residence Programme. In a nutshell, you need to commit at least €150,000 to be eligible for this program. You’ll become a Permanent Resident of Malta 6-8 months later, enabling you to experience border-less travel throughout the 29 countries comprising the Schengen area.
Europe’s Malta also offers MEIN, as in Maltese Exceptional Investor Naturalization. With a minimum €600,000 requirement, 16-18 months down the line, you’ll become a Maltese citizen. You’ll qualify for a Maltese passport, the 7th strongest travel document in the world as it allows you to enter 175 countries without a visa.
RBI means Residency by Investment. There are 10 main programs that offer a residence permit in return for a qualifying investment. The MPRP is one, as are the golden visas offered by fellow EU members, Greece, Portugal, and Spain.
CBI is Citizenship by Investment, with the 8 major programs providing citizenship in exchange for an investment of at at least $130,000.
As well as MEIN, the Eastern Caribbean countries of Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St Kitts and Nevis, and St Lucia supply popular CBI routes. Combined with RBI, CBI forms a new abbreviation in RCBI, as in Residency and Citizenship by Investment.
There are many ways to interpret CBD, but in the context of investment migration, it stands for Citizenship by Descent. Here, you have to prove that roots of your family tree are strong enough to establish a link with one of a select number of European countries.
These are Austria, Ireland, Italy, Poland, and Portugal, with the Italian passport the 2nd most powerful in the world, the Austrian, Irish and Portuguese the 3rd, and the Polish the 4th, with visa-free access to 180, 179, and 178 countries respectively.
ILR means Indefinite Leave to Remain. This entitles you, as a foreign national, the chance to stay in the United Kingdom as long as you like. It’s one of the perks of the UK Innovator Founder Visa, on the proviso that you satisfy minimum cultural, language, and physical residency requirements.
PR is similar to ILR. Permanent Residence/Residency is your long-term right to remain in the country you have invested in. Only by abiding by physical residency stipulations can you achieve this.
TCN translates as a Third Country National. But what is a Third Country National? As a Third Country National (TCN), you’re not a citizen of any EU state or of any country in the European Economic Area (EEA) and can apply for European RCBI Programmes to avoid having to apply for a Schengen visa, for example.
The SUV we’re clarifying is not a Sports Unit Vehicle. But the Canadian Start-Up visa can transfer you to one of the most desirable residences available to investors. A mere C$275,000 can see you and your family gain Canadian citizenship within 5 years.
EB-5 refers to the employment-based fifth preference visa you’ll receive from this investment in US residency. Few residence permits are as well-known and as highly-regarded as the American Green Card and this is what a minimum $800,000 investment delivers. After 5 years of PR in the USA, you become eligible for US citizenship.
With this article, you have cut through the jargon. But the world of RCBI can still be a minefield, so you’ll require an expert investment migration guide such as Latitude Group. So, don’t delay and contact us today.
