Grenada Citizenship by Investment is changing in 2024. First came the launch of IMA Grenada and this Investment Migration Agency has just released a circular with a new list of countries/nationalities ineligible to apply for Grenada citizenship. Find out all the details in our latest news story.
This circular signed by Thomas Anthony, CEO of the Agency, went out on Monday, March 25, 2024. It “hereby informed that nationals residing in the following countries are ineligible, without exception, to apply effective April 1, 2024:
It’s not quite a blanket ban for all Afghanistani, Iranian, Sudanese, and Yemeni applicants, however. If you were born in one of these 4 countries but left before 18, you could become eligible. You would also have to have been a permanent resident of Canada, the UK, the Schengen zone, the US, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, or the UAE for at least 10 years. Or been approved for a visa there.
You can also become eligible with permanent residence or as a visa holder of the above specified areas alone. Yet whether you left before or after the age of maturity, you’re not allowed to have any economic ties with any of the 7 restricted countries.
One last stipulation is enhanced due diligence. This “on the ground investigation…may come at a significantly higher cost to the applicant”.
Christopher Willis, Our Man in the Caribbean, recognizes the circular’s in line with a wider policy shift. He says: “The Grenada Citizenship by Investment Programme brought in around $90 million in 2023. Grenada used this amount to improve its infrastructure and fund public projects.”
“In order to satisfy US and EU concerns, Grenada has decided to limit applications through an increase in the number of restricted countries. Nevertheless, the island remains an alluring medium-haul escape from the US with direct flights from Canada, Germany, and the UK also available if you truly want to explore the benefits of citizenship in such a beautiful country.”
