Consisting of approximately two-thirds of the island of Cyprus in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, the Republic of Cyprus has been an independent nation since 1960 and a member of the EU since 2004.
A thoroughly modern society with an ancient heritage
Cyprus joined the EU in 2004 and became a member of the Eurozone in 2008. The island enjoys low tax rates and has a diversified economy in which tourism, financial services and shipping are major players. Its population of 1.17 million (2016 est.) enjoys a low cost, high standard of living.
The Citizenship-by-Investment Programme is well-suited to families and, once granted, citizenship is valid for life and can be passed on to future generations.
Cyprus lies at the crossroads between east and west, and has the transport links to reflect this, being just 1.5hrs from Athens, 4hrs from Frankfurt, 3.5hrs from Dubai and 5hrs from London.
The official language is Greek, but the population is multi-lingual and English tends to be used as the language of business. This multi-lingualism is reflected in the many private schools on the island that teach in English, French, Russian or Greek.
As a Mediterranean island, Cyprus has an attractive climate of warm, dry summers from April to November, with short, cooler winters. The average annual daytime temperature is 24°C.
