Antigua & Barbuda: five ways to enjoy five days

Antigua and Barbuda's Citizenship-by-Investment Programme (CIP) offers visa-free travel to 150 countries in return for a donation from $100,000 USD. As such, it is no surprise that it's one of the world's most popular CIPs.

Once granted citizenship, successful applicants will need to spend at least five (5) days on island during the first five (5) years of citizenship. Most choose to do this by visiting Antigua for a vacation.

Land of 365 Beaches

Antigua and Barbuda enjoys a pleasant year-round climate. Known as the 'Land of 365 Beaches', one for every day of the year, this twin-island nation is considered among the most beautiful places in the world.

The islands boast a wide selection of luxury hotels, superb restaurants and pristine beaches, making it a fantastic place for couples and families to take a relaxing break.

"The sun's always shining"

Christopher Willis, Latitude's Managing Director in the Caribbean, has spent the last six years visiting Antigua and Barbuda whilst advising families on the benefits of the Citizenship-by-Investment Programme. He describes Antigua as:

"The perfect place to relax with the family. The sun's always shining, the food is fantastic and the beaches are world class. You leave all your worries behind when you step off the plane in Antigua."

During the five days you're required to spend in Antigua and Barbuda, you'll have plenty of time to explore the islands and experience the Caribbean lifestyle. Antigua and Barbuda may be small in size, but there is so much to do for visiting families. Here are five activities that Christopher highly recommends.

Watch the sunset on a private cruise

The sunsets in Antigua are spectacular. As the day comes to an end, the sky is filled with magnificent orange and purple hues, beautifully reflected on the clear seas. There's nowhere better to experience an Antiguan sunset than from the deck of a private sailing or motor boat. Private sunset cruises operate out of Falmouth Harbour and head west to Cades reef, prime position to see the sun sink into the ocean.

Visit Nelson's Dockyard at English Harbour

Nelson's Dockyard is a former British Naval Base located at the heart of English Harbour, which now plays host to an excellent museum, lively bars & restaurants and Antigua's modern sailing industry. The area was granted UNESCO World Heritage status in 2016 for its exceptional atmosphere and unique Georgian architecture. Nelson's Dockyard is also one of the best places to enjoy those spectacular sunsets whilst still on dry land.

Soak up the sun at Ffrye's Beach

The 'Land of 365 Beaches' has plenty to choose from, and Ffrye's is one of the best. It's located in the unspoilt south western corner of Antigua, and renowned for its crystal white sand and brilliant blue seas. The snorkelling is fantastic, and under the palms that line the beach you'll find relaxed beach bars where you can enjoy a drink while watching the world go by.

Enjoy a meal at Le Bistro

Antigua is blessed with an abundance of fantastic restaurants. Since 1981, Le Bistro has been considered one of the best in the island. Le Bistro's dishes are French-inspired with a Caribbean twist - local seafood like marlin, mahi-mahi and snapper are matched with classic French sauces. Le Bistro is located in the Hodges Bay Area of St John's and reservations are always recommended.

Experience Antiguan nightlife at Cloggy's

Cloggy's is a restaurant & bar located at the Antigua Yacht Club. This prestigious establishment enjoys fantastic views across Falmouth Harbour, and its location makes it very popular with visiting yachtsmen. The food is well presented and, once dinner has been served, live music and dancing continue late into the night.
